The Smithfield Bar and Grill

Smithfield, ancient and historic, the Trafalgar Square and Wembley Stadium of its day. Where the medieval Kings of England would preside over lavish jousting tourneys, where heretics, rebels and criminals would be beheaded, burnt or boiled (or whatever their fancy) to a jeering crowd of day-trippers. Where Wat Tyler was found wanting in the Peasant Revolt. Scene of England's greatest cloth fairs and where, for a mere 800 years meat has been bought and sold.

A couple of years ago, by Smithfield standards (early Victorian period) the Meat Market was fully legitimised by the Corporation of London and sited centrally in a rather swanky, modern building in the centre of Smithfield. Built of that grand new designer material - cast iron it has developed into a hustling, bustling hive of activity, testament to England's fortitude and industry. Luckily the SMITHFIELD BAR & GRILL is also to be found here on the southern side of the market, that's the city side, it provides the perfect place to unwind after a hard day of bartering and playing the market.
