Caipirinhas
This traditional Brazilian drink prepared with cachaca is all the rage now and we only use the best - Sagatiba. You could say it used to be Brazil's best-kept secret, now it's the connoisseur's cocktail of choice from New York City to London.
Sagatiba is the distilled spirit of Brasil in it's purest form and the Caipirinha it's national drink. The name Caipirinha is derived from the Portuguese word caipira (hick or country bumpkin) coupled with the -inha suffix (denoting little or small), like the word cachaca, there really is no real translation for Caipirinha except Caipirinha...unless you prefer to call it a 'little hick' or 'little country bumpkin', most people would rather drink one that get hung up on the name. Nobody knows for sure exactly who made the first Caipirinha or why.
We can only speculate that it was created to help the cachaca go down a little smoother because, after all,'a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down...' A very popular variation on the Caipirinha is the Caipiroska, which is a Caipirinha with the cachaca substituted by vodka.
